Family Tree
From papa's parents Tom and Mary Ann (Smiley) Ross to Big Mama's grandparents Charlie and Emmaline Bryant, the Ross Family has grown to more than 500 members since the 1860s.
Other family members include the Hartsfields of East Texas (Cherokees), the Ross-Lacys of Mt. Enterprise, TX (Scottish), and an African woman (Big Mama's maternal grandmother) possibly named "Josephine" who was reportedly brought to the U.S. at age 9 in 1849.
Josephine later had a child named Mary with a Cherokee with the reservation name Henry Hartsfield. Mary married Rev. John Bryant, Charlie and Emmaline's son, and raised their children, including Big Mama, on an 80-acre farm they owned in Mt. Enterprise, TX. The family still holds about 40 acres.
